I just loved chatting with her...listening to how she helps with leading freshman at her school and starting to think of what the future holds. It's no surprise she wants to help people.

She quoted JP2 to me--words from before she was born, but so relevant today: "Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought." 

She gains inspiration from her parents (of course) and also from her older siblings...She is #5 of 6, so I can relate...Miss L has three weddings coming up with both of her sisters and one of her older brothers. So fun!

They are the youngest three of a family of 11. It is no small feat getting everyone out the door AND looking good. We large family moms get it. So. In the interest of all the things, we decided to meet these 3 first, and then catch up with all the big kids later...

We stopped on some streets (on the way to the airport), in search of the perfect "Por-tu-gal" vibe...but let's just stop for a second. Forget Portugal vibes.  Those BEAUTFUL EYES didn't need Portugal vibes.

We thought they decorated the streets for our arrival. Turns out, they had running with the bulls from Midnight - 3am right outside our window where we slept on the floor. 

We went to St George's castle. Yep that's a castle all right! So beautiful! Might have picked up a souvenir for little brother who loves all-things sword-fighting. :)

I love a good ivy wall photo...But the ivy in Portugal?? Looked like green beans! Naturally we stopped here on the way to all the other places. LOVE.

We stopped for coffee and pastel de nata at this little cafe and it had studio vibes, so we grabbed a few shots here. My girl became a bit of a coffee girl overseas. Cute little espresso cups with desserts...how could you not?

We had a layover in NYC...and how could we NOT head to Manhattan and check out the city. At sunrise? Yawn. Had lunch with Aunties and Cousin, and then strolled through a small part of Central Park before we jumped on the subway to catch our plane.

There are so many more. But we'll save those for Senior Sunday. I'm now scheduling destination Senior Photos...Smile. I can't get over how fun it is to photograph your senior girl...and how it feels like yesterday she was toddling around...

You can't even tell how hot it was with how beautiful she looks!

And we braved sunset with wildflowers...

At the end of Mass, Fr. Thomas explained one of the beautiful traditions of the ordination, the Maniturgium...Let me just say, there was not a dry eye in the church...even on Fr. Thomas...And Mom came to rescue to comfort her son...because that's what Moms do.

Mark it down in her baby book, Mom! First time playing in the leaves.  :)

Not that they aren't planning for the rest of their lives like the high school seniors I meet. We all do that to some degree. But these two also have the gift of looking back at their 50 years of marriage!  Such a beautiful legacy.

Nope!  An awesome family: couple of great kids, and a strong marriage.  Still love birds. 

Thank you D family for hanging out with me! It's always so good to catch up and see how TALL the kids are getting. Love and Hugs. And thank you for trusting me with your memories. 

They encourage each other by writing scripture verses on their legs or prayer intentions on their arms so when they are working HARD and it doesn't feel like they can go on anymore, they can push themselves harder and offer their suffering for the intentions on their arms and pray the scripture on their legs. Beautiful. But as I was shooting today, I started weeping behind my mask. I mean, I wasn't sure any photos were in focus it was that bad. And as I type this blog post, I am weeping again. This young lady, #822, she CHEERS her teammates on. I don't know her. But I have seen her and heard her.  At all the meets. Here, in these few moments of extreme fatigue nearing the finish line, she is encourages her teammate, "GO!! YOU CAN DO THIS!  YOU SHOULD BEAT ME.  Keep going and BEAT ME!!"  

And her encouragement helped her teammate, #804. That was awesome, yes. But the tears came here. After running 3.2 miles, they were TIRED. And #804 collapsed just over the finish line. This encouraging teammate, #822, was probably wiped out too. But she PICKED UP HER TEAMMATE, you guys. Helped her off the finish line, walked with her, half carrying her, so she she could see the medic. I was watching and weeping and turned my camera. These shots are not awesomely composed or focused or whatever. It was only like 5 seconds. But I think they capture the true love and sacrifice.  

Isn't that what our Lord does for us? Cheers us on? Tells us we can do it when we think we can't? And whether we do or we fail, He walks with us, and carries us when we can't.  God bless you, Miss #822 and God bless your teammate, #804 as she recovers. Thank you SJA for your witness and formation of these young people. THIS is what it is all about. Academics? Yes. But. Educating our young people during such a tumultuous time. is. SO. MUCH. MORE. Thank you Jesus.

She has been practicing 4-5 days/week this summer--she loves Volleyball and it shows.

I'm super excited to watch her take flight this year.  Amidst so much uncertainty in our world, these freshman sessions give so much hope.

Ready to embark, yes. But still just a (big) kid for today.

I remember my freshman year...the butterflies of walking the halls...the anticipation of new friendships, learning traditions, making mistakes and working through them (even though I knew it all. Smile.)  And while the class of 2024 is doing things all different (this young lady has been zoom-dance-team-preparing all summer)...it is still the same next 4 years before the rest of their lives.

Not the same High School I attended, but I can still remember our fight song..."Rolling Meadow Mustangs, we will fight for victory..." Ultimately, while its all new and different...it is still very much the same. 

Thank you Miss A for catching up with me and letting me walk down memory lane...Your joy-filled exuberance lights up this world.  Keep being you!!

The pure humility and joy on their faces!

A little history lesson...They are Capuchin friars; They follow St. Francis' path to holiness.  The cord on their habit, 3 knots for their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. And sandals. Like Jesus. And when they lay prostrate and everyone is praying for them...so powerful.

Archbishop Stephen Reichert, OFMCap. is the Archbishop of Papua New Guinea. Came out of Sabbatical to ordain these priests. Because of Covid travel restrictions, their Archbishop couldn't travel to be here.

On to some festivities.  But first, a selfie! 

And I wrapped up the weekend with attending Fr. Brandon's first Mass. Fr. Donald preached the homily. Awesome and inspiring!!

​Fr. Brandon's Chalice first belonged to Bishop Donnelly. So beautiful. 

Stolen moments...When the priest is ordained, he is anointed with Oil of Chrism.  It is wiped clean with a very special, hand-embroidered cloth called the manutergium. This cloth is saved and given to the mother of the priest who will keep and cherish it. 

Fr. Brandon and I worked high ropes at the new Camp Tekakwitha a million and 2 years ago. To see him be ordained was such an honor. And his mom and I worked together at the very first Camp Tekakwitha...about a dozen years before then. The church is alive in Northeast Kansas all the way to western Kansas...I am so thankful for the prayers and humble honor to witness and capture such a holy event. Amidst so much uncertainty in our world, we can be certain that Jesus is alive and moving in the hearts of His people. Thank God. 

He asked if we could get one with this photo of Our Lady. Are you kidding?  Of course, sweet boy.

And he wouldn't be a soon-to-be 3rd grader if he didn't have some giggles...

Thank you Mr. Z and mom and dad for trusting me with your memories! I am praying for you!

And a joyful celebration!  Fr. spoke about Moms. Mom's want the best for their kids like Mary wanted the best for Jesus. And dads too, of course.  Look at this fun Mom and Dad!  Their sweet son was trying to be cool, but you know he loved that smooch Sammich.

And how about this sweet girl? A little nervous. But so precious. Her glittery nails!!

My heart smiles coming home. And it smiles about these sweet children. Thank you Holy Cross for the invitation and for trusting me with your memories. You will always hold a special place in my heart!

BUT...I did LOVE this tradition. All the guys on his team signed his rugby ball!! I think it's called a footie?  

And...while this guy is tough sporty guy...he has the bigtime SMARTS!!  :) See the colorful cords. He is all about traditions. And there are some long standing traditions at STA. I teared up as he told me about THE ROCK. 

Even twin sister didn't know the tradition so much. But. Oh. My. Heart.

And I would be remiss if I didn't include twin sister in a few shots.

Looks like those hedges have some covid over-growth too. Not unlike my own boys. lol! You're welcome, STA. I pulled a couple of overgrown weeds that were blocking the letters. :) 

and I loved how this tough sports smarty guy got all smooshy with mom.

So many great shots. I'm glad I was able to capture this time. Moms. When your tough guy senior say he "doesn't want senior pics." Don't believe him. This time. Especially this COVID time...it is but a moment in time. He will be thankful. Promise. :)  Thank you senior W. I'll be praying for you at your school next year. Sisters as besties. Love. And they were worried about their smiles. So natural and sweet.

No words.  Ok. Two words. 

Because. Covid. Typically this ceremony would be crowded, standing room only. But today, social-distancing=families spread apart. No one noticed because it was still so joyful. Except the kids. They noticed. "Why masks?" "Why tape?" Sweet kids. We do this because we are Christian, and it is our job to take care of each other. Wearing our masks, sweet children, is not easy. But its a small sacrifice compared to the huge sacrifice Jesus did for all of us. So. Yes. Masks. And Tape. 

These men and their families have been praying and preparing for this day for 5 years. You bet there were tears of joy. So much deep prayer. Loved the tradition with the little red and white hand-stitched handkerchief all the wives had, which came from the wives of the previous cohort of deacons. Beautiful.

Congratulations, Deacons and families. Thank you for continuing the good work already started by Jesus. Thank you for your sacrifice to build up the body of Christ. And thank you for allowing me to capture a few moments of your joy-filled ceremony. 

I nearly needed to stand on a ladder to photograph him he is so tall!

Thank you E family for trusting me with your memories of such a special time in a teen's life. And I am praying for you, C, whenever it is that you can be Confirmed!  Keep being that bright shining light that you are! 

Amidst so much unknown and the topsy-turvy life in our world today, it is such a gift to see the sweet innocence and joy of a child preparing to receive Jesus.

There is no doubt that Mary intercedes for this family. What a miracle this sweet girl is!

And this sweet girl. So brave. Her first day back actually IN CHURCH, and she chose to receive her First Holy Communion TODAY! Surrounded by her family, split into 2 pews, she did it. It brought me to tears, praying in the next section over, as she was overcome with emotion. God Bless you Sweet A!  

God bless ALL First Holy Communion Class 2026, whenever it is you are able to receive your First Eucharist. Our family is praying for you!

And in her hair? Her mom wore those (actually they are earrings) on her wedding day too!  Traditions with her family run as deeply as the ones in our family. Love. The chilly giggles in this next sneak peak photo are priceless. Because she was falling off the chair LOL!

And what a good sport. She just stuck with me despite the chilliness. And wind! It kept blowing that gorgeous veil ALL OVER THE PLACE. :)  

This is the third kiddo of this family that I have been able to photograph for FHC and I love it. Thank you, B family for trusting me with capturing the timelessness of these Sacramental Moments. And if time could just stand still...

As a boy-mom-of-many I kinda just wanted to tossle his cute messy gelled hair. And that smile!

These next few might be my favorite. I don't think for a second he didn't LOVE that smooch from mom. I mean, seriously!

I kinda get a little teary.

  Because we mamas know that our babies grow big and act like they don't love the smooches anymore.

But they do. I mean, his face just shows it.

Thank you M family for trusting me with your memories. And know that I am praying for your sweet little J man. So clearly serious about his faith, but also sweet and precious and super fun. Keep acting cool, J. Wink wink. And keep wearing that heart on your sleeve and all over your face when your mama comes around.  

And then. Little sister received her First Holy Communion.  So we booked both sessions together. :) Bet you can't tell she is a dancer. So sweet.

"God is in this place, and so this place is holy..."  I couldn't stop humming it as I met with this lovely girl and her family.

No words. Just. Holy. Ground.

Little Miss O. is so close to Jesus. It's like He is speaking to her heart.  Can't you just see it?  Her journey has been anointed.

Thank you, C family. I am humbled that you trust me with capturing sweet O during such a beautiful time.  Any time with her is holy ground. 

Stunning.  She shared with me she will be able to wear this gorgeous dress again soon because she is going to be a flower girl in her Uncle's wedding.  What a gift!

She has such a contagious smile.  I just love it!  I snapped this one riiight before she slid off the chair.  NO worries.  I caught her!  :)

One more sneak peak...she was sure to tell me she wants a dancing photo for her wall.  I'm going to save those for her to see later.  :)  Practicing a little MORE patience before her big day next weekend.  :)

There are more to come, but the story behind this is amazing.  When mom and dad were unpacking after they got married, they realized they both had THE EXACT SAME CHILDREN'S BIBLE growing up!  What a beautiful tradition to pass on to their kids!  Thank you Miss E for spending time with me today!  I am praying for you!

 I always look forward to my time with this young lady and her faithful family.  C knows how to keep me on my toes, and on my knees because of the gift that she is. God Bless you, sweet C.  I love how in tune you are with His presence all around you.

Even though we sat right up front during Mass, we somehow ended up near the back in line to pray with St. Gianna.  Providence.  It gave me the opportunity to humbly capture this sweet family as they prayed together and talked about the relic.  Littlest brother had eyes for me.  :)  

Wonder and Awe!  I love it! Meanwhile, my kids were getting hangry and poking each other at the back of the line.  Truth.  :)    

Sweet sister L has a devotion to St. Gianna.  What a gift to pray for this family to pray as a family, first at Mass, then with St. Gianna, ON MOM'S BIRTHDAY of all days!  Our kids were so happy to meet miss L and her family.  Since we've been praying for her/them so long, she is practically FAMOUS.  "LIVIE?  WHERE? She is HERE???"

Finally, we waited until the weather got a little nicer to head outdoors.  I mean, with winter/snow-spring/sun-winter/snow/ice-spring/rain, it took some time for flowersandtreesandplants to figure out what they should  be doing!  Mom reminded me with big sister, we captured a moment of joy when she appeared to be flying.  And after a few attempts, I think we nailed it with Miss. A...

Just a little over 7 years ago, she wore this Baptismal Gown and was Baptized in this Baptismal font.  

If only the weather would cooperate.  She was so chilly, but still sweet and cute!

Thank you, sweet Miss E for braving the chilly morning and spending some time with me!  I am praying for You these next 2 weeks!

And since then, it has been a flurry of texts, phone calls, and messages...YES! I have room for one more.  :)  YES!  I do outdoor AND indoor photos with each session.  YES! I aim to get the whole session done in 30 minutes-1 hour.  :)   But...let's get back to this guy.  I mean.  Words cannot describe the joy that overcomes me as he prepares for his FHC.  Joy and humility.  I can't believe the depth that he shows now vs even 6 month ago!  And.  His heart.  He wears it on his sleeve.  But you know when we were talking about FHC suits and what to wear, it. was. decided.  BOW TIE!  That's our #3.  (Um. His mom MIGHT have purchased 2 different bow ties because we couldn't decide.  Smile.)  Love him!   Come Lord Jesus!  

There were 2 different gowns that were tried on:  mom's and dad's.  :)  What a gift to have a choice!  Tradition.

 I am so proud of how Mom and Dad are doing, how baby T is thriving, and it was so great seeing both sides of the family gushing all over him.  Thank you for the opportunity, H Family, to join you in celebrating today!  

How about biggest sister?  All poise and responsibility, mixed with some laughs now and again.  She looks just like her mama. Gorg.

And middle sister loved all of it.  The dancing, the excitement.  I caught her, sneaking a peak of herself in an ornament.  Seriously.  This was totally spontaneous.  And totally perfect:

And.  While I grabbed a bunch of shots of the whole family snuggling sweet baby M, I love this one.  I mean.  Only this mama with 5 kiddos myself understands the real life in this photo...giggly girls blowing kisses to me, and brothers so sweet in the midst of playing legos and getting ready for an afternoon at the pool.  :)  I just love it.

Thank you M and D, for sharing your sweet family with me.  I am praying for your upcoming transition.  Do know that you will be missed!  

And. It's no small task to get these independent kiddos interacting with each other because they were so. busy!

And then, after celebrating with a near and dear family and their son's FHC, I had the pleasure of visiting with this family again.  In between rain showers.  Literally.  :) It has been a year since I was able to capture their oldest daughter's FHC, and now, some family time.  I am so thankful to be able to capture this lovely mama and her babies smothering her with love.

And look at all. these. cousins!!  Adorable and full of giggles!

And how about mom and dad and family snuggles?  No editing needed.  Pure love and joy here.  I have more sneak peaks I'd love to post.  But I have my kids who are in need of some mommy snuggles.  Or, is it the other way around?  :)  Thank you to both families for trusting me with your family's memories.  God bless!

And look at all these cuties!  Is this real life, or what?  Teacher and Priest, both trying to help the kids maintain composure after the ceremony.  You really needed to see the paparazzi.  I mean, EVERY parent and Grandparent and Auntie and Uncle all had their I phones and cameras, snapping photos of these sweet kiddos.  Me too.  :) Do know I DID get a shot of all them being angelic.  But here is the reality before that...

Let me take you back to this nugget.  E was SO excited when we briefly met before Mass.  This is after Mass, before she went BACK into retreat.

This is her Baptism photo, 7 years ago.  Love that you can still see that baby in those eyes.  Where does the time go?

And here is D again...in his suit AND the robe, symbolic of the white garment he wore on his Baptism day. 

And these 2 lovebirds, little D's Abuelos.  I. Mean.  Makes me miss my Grandparents.  A. Lot.  What a gift that they could be here to celebrate with their Grandson. 

The last church I visited today was to meet up with this young man, M.  Freshly cut locks.  Adorable dimples.  

I love the beauty of this church.   Who can name this parish?  :)

I loved this little snippet of this family's tradition so much that I focused in on it while he was reading the Bible.  That ribbon, if you can't see it, reads, "First Holy Communion."

And, at last, he showed me his best Spiderman jump...beautifully holy, and yet, still a 2nd grade boy...(in case you can't tell, there is some height in that jump!  Sing with me, "Look out, here comes the spider man..." )  :)

And.  Let's just talk about this VEIL.  It was her mom's wedding veil.  Floor length and GORGEOUS.  

This rosary was blessed by Pope Francis.  Awesome.  

And how about this young lady?  A different Miss A.  Such precious innocence.  

And I'm posting this one because of her awesome sense of humor.  "I'm sinking!" Yep! Take a look at her feet. Her heels were most definitely sinking!  

Humbled.  When I asked her to pray, she just kept on praying.

And when all his big sisters and brother came in, I was sort of bamboozled by all the cuteness!  Everyone wanting to hold him.  Everyone wanting to help.  Everyone getting in front of me so I could snap their photo.  Can you tell I was swept away?  I just love all these kids!

And big brother.  Nothing wrong with a bunch of sisters.  He is blessed with 4 sisters. But he waited a LONG TIME for a brother.  You can see the relationship already forming...Such sweet adoration...

And here is the whole gang...no fancy editing necessary with this loving family.  I'm going to have to go back to snuggle that sweet baby some more. I came home to hold MY (3 year old) baby and he felt SO BIG!!!  Sniffle.  When did my baby get so big?? ( I rocked him to sleep anyway. Just because.)
